COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.

Sottthlaitd Times Office, Wednesday Evening. The following are the Custom Eeturna for —

♦ By the arrival of the Alhambra from Melbourne, we are in receipt of Victorian papers to the 31st July. "We extract the following commercial article from the "Argus," of the 31st ult.:— In the import markets business has opened out without any signs of activity, and transactions have been limited in extent. In the market for breadstuffs, there is no business to report beyond the usual amount of small sales for trade requirements, at £16 to £16 10s for Adelaide flour, according to br.uid. To qnifc entire shipments of country brands, however, a less figure than those named would not be refused. The finer ' descriptions of wheat are wanted, and sales of Californian and South Australian could be effected at ful rates. Chilian, however, remains neglected. Maize is quiet ; no sales can be made to-day over 5s 4id. Provisions command more notice. We hear of a shipment of sixty cases of Sinclair's hams and bacon, half and half, having been placed in a line at a figure withheld. A parcel of Campbell's met with a purchaser at eq"ual to Is 3d, duty paid. In liquids generally, characterised by a great T«ant of activity, we hear of a shipment of some seventy quarter-casks of low port wine having changed hands at £21. A shipment of MarteU's pale brandy, in hhds, has been disposed of at within a shade of 7s 6d. Sales of Byass's stout have been effected at 9s 6d. Oils do not attract much notice. For kerosene, as much as 5s continues still to be asked for best brands. The sales made, however, are trifling, as buyers do not expect present prices to hold, now that they have given way. A small parcel of 100 cases Cozzen's was placed at our quotation. Linseed oil is more inquired for, and prices are well sustained. For a trade parcel of drums, half raw and half boiled, placed to day, 5s ( 3d was realised. Further sales of quicksilver at 2s 3d have transpired. • The less of the Camberoona, Murray steamer, has been made known in the city. We learn, however, that the greater portion of her cargo was fully insured. We understand that the bills of Messrs. Joseph Bishop and Co., ironfounders, Ballaarat, have been returned dishonored. A meeting of creditors will be called in a few dajs.
