The scheme for erecting a gymnasium in Birmingham has not succeeded, but out of the movement a promising Athletic Society has arisen, which already numbers about 100 members. Everybody (says a recent must have seen a Rhine raft, so I need not describe it, with its acres of wood, and its street of cabin dwellings, and its gay-colored flags. A large raft needs 500 men to navigate it, and the timber of it sells for £30,000, . ■ /
