MY WIFE.
Time only makes her love more dear, Her smiles of kindness more express, Her age with finer thoughts me cheer, When sorrows my poor heart oppress. Time marks, maybe, her rosy lace— Its bloom but plays another part, With deeper glow and richer grace Tt helps to warm her lender heart ; — Sweetheart still e'er until I die, My wife, though old, more young than I. Time only sweetens to mine ear Her counsel glean' d from pious lore ; Her voice still warbles soft and clear Of song and wit its jewell'd store. Time but more sweetly pales her eyes To charm my house with yong orbs bright — Nine lovely ones, life's clearest prize. Bear her blue eyes, with sparkling light — Sweet heart stiil e'or until I die, My wife, though old, more young than I. Time deeper sets her virtues rare, Like costly gems, when richly wrought, My home the idol of her care, hStore for old age her constant thought. Time warns me of a last "good-bye," When ebbing life brings yet more near The golden bliss beyond the sky, Ye*"- 1 will love her there as here ; Sweetheart still e'er beyond the sky,f| My wife, though old, more young than I.
