NELSON.
Nelson, 3rd July. Steamer Auckland, wliicli left Nelson a few days since for Hokitika and Melbourne/ has put back to coal ; reports fearful weather on the "West . Coast, landed passengers ; no cargo. Claud Hamilton sailed for Hokitika this morning. The body of old Jamie has been found atthe foot of Maungatapu, near Pertinga Bridge, in the Nelson Province ; it was brought into town this afternoon; inquest to be held to-morrow. The body is in a fearful state, Sullivan confessed" to planting a revolver and a bottle of strychnine in a gorse* hedge in town, was taken to-day in a vehicle and pointed out the spot ; both found. The strychnine was intended to be used to destroy persons too strong to" he otherwise dealt with. Sullivan's confessions will, appall when published, They will .not be given till trial. The Superintendent has written to the Governmerit to appoint ft special co^ani-niio^ to try
