By the arrival of the Tararua, we hare the Argus of the 14th June, from which we take the commercial article : — In the import markets to-day the utmost apathy has prevailed, and the transactions which have come under our notice hare been of the mo3t trifling description ; indeed, the influence of the mail advices has been more felt to-day than yesterday, and business has in consequence been for tbe greater part of the day almost prostrate. The market for breadstuff's is steady, with a fair trade demand for best Adelaide flour, sales continuing to be reported at £17 10s. Of Ca'.ifornian flour ■we hear of a parcel of over thirty tons as having been placed at £16 10s. In wheat there are no further transactions to report. A private telegram from Sydney advises that one firm, large jaolders of breadstuffs, had been cleared out by speculators, and an advance in prices waa anticipated. The arrivals to - day are numerous, and include the Zulette from California, whose cargo consists of 20,000 bushels wheat, 10,000 bushels barley, and 10,000 bushels oats. The wheat will not be offered for sale at present, but is to be stored ; but 6,000 bushels of the barley have already been sold at ss. Via Sydney, the Pembrokeshire from San Francisco, and the Charlotte Andrews from Chili, have likewise put in an appearance. Maize is quitted freely at 5s 3d to 5b 4d, in parcel of 300 to 400 bags. In barley, a very much improved feeling is manifested, though little actual business has resulted, other than the Eale already alluded to of a portion ol the Zulette's shipment. Sugars still jneet with attention from the trade, at prices ranging from £42, £42 10s., and £44 for yellow crystals. A Bmall parcel of blasting powder, "Loch Fyne," has been quitted at 7d. In spirits, we hear of a shipment of Jules Kobin and Co.'a pale brandy, hogsheads and quartor-casks having been pfaced at 7s 4jd. Trade gales of common whisky in bulk (Kirkliitoa) are effected at 4s 6d, and the market abovß a further tendency to riie. A consignment of 10 per cent., o.p. rum, 8.W.P., in hhde. and qr.-caik*. has met with a purchaser ut the SXfcrerae rate of 8p lpjd.
