COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.

Sotjthia>*d Tihes OfSce, Saturday Evening. Th.3 following are the Custom returas for — Friday, Bth June, Brandy, 23 gals .£l3 19 0 Satebday, 9th June.

4> — !From the Grrei/ liiver Argus, 20th May, we -take the following itomsof commercial interest : — Business in this market continues unusually quiet, and transactions have been boo small to effect quotations. . The market is well supplied with most leading articles, and probably sales would have been more active but for the prevailing tightness in the money market. The flour, ex Murray, was sold at low prices-Adelaide. £20 ; Californian and Chilian, £17 to £17 10s. The ruling prices for small lots are £25 for Adelaide ; Chillian, £20; Californian, £21. Produce, ex Maid of the Mill and Eliza Simpson, sold at the following rates ; — Oats, 7s to 7s 3d per bushel : chaff, £"30 per ton j hay, £11 : apples, Us per bushel ; potatoes, £7 to £7 10s per ton. Quotations in any other a "tides remain unchanged." We are in receipt of our Oiago files to the 6th June, from which we extract the following items of commercial intelligence. " A fair amount of businesshas been experienced during the past week, transactions have, however, been more numerous than large, very few considerable operations in any branch of trade having been reported. The markets on the "West Coast continue to wear an encouraging appearance, stocks being extremely limited, and prices advancing, and in consequence a considerable demand is maintained here for -most suitable goods for shipment. The country trade keeps good, and will probably remain so during the greater part of the winter. The carriage question, and the scarcity of some descriptions of goods, having prevented storekeepers from being in the usual position as to stock at this time of the Tear. The flour market wear 3an improved tone, the result of last Australian advices. Prices quoted last week as nominal, and at which sales could not be made, are now firm, though no sales of importance have transpired. A small shipment of Adelaide is to hand, the only arrival for several weeks. Sugars are looking well, and notwithstanding the importations since the commencement of the year, the stock is again down low, particularly in the most saleable description. The last advances from Melbourne are favorable to the continuance of the improved rates now asked. Teas have not seen neglected ; prices obtained hare been quite equal to last quotations, and the market now, in consequence of stocks of me iiuin and good congous being largely diminished, wears an appearance of improvement The non arrival of shipments of bulk ales (sold to ■ arrive) is causing a lull in the trade, the sale of the balance of aparcelsof M'Ewans yet toarrive, forming the only item of magnitude which has come under our notice ; however, the hisdi price of the chief brewing requisites augurs well for the sale of all new beers as soon as to hand. Bottled ale continues little enquired for, the reverse being the case lor stout, which last commands full prices. There has been a little more doing in provisions than usual, but nearly ail for parcels to arrive by shins Jue. Butter and cheese both maintain full prices.
