ALLEGED DEPARTURE OF STEPHENS FOR AMERICA.
The Cork JExaminer, of the evening of March 14, states that it " has excellent reason for knowing that James Stephens, the Head ©eatre, has recently left Ireland for America, and that prior to his departure he enjoined upon the Brotherhood in Ireland the advisability of paying more attention for the present to peaceful pursuits than they have been doing for some time."
The Cork Herald, of March 15, announces, as a " distinguished arrival " in that city, Mrs James Stephens, • wife of the escaped Fenian chief. It describes her as ' an extremely engaging young lady, in the best health and spirits." — A statement current jn Dublin, on March 21, was, that James Stephens had sent a telegram from Paris announcing his safe arrival there on the morning of March 18. This telegram was received by Mrs Stephens in Cork, who immediately returned from Queenstown, took train to Dublin, and continued her journey to Holyhead on her way to Paris on the night of March 20. The trip of the headcentress was merely a ruse.
