CANTERBURY. Christchurch, May 5. The Esperanz, for Newcastle, with coals for Timaru has put into Lyttelton through stress of weather. Hokitika— Maria gone ashore on north spit ; Gothenburg,' from Melbourne, reports that Governor Darling had been suspended. A movement was afloat to vote him £20,000. Crisis over. Tariff and Supply bills passed ; obnoxious clauses were withdrawn. The Tamar, steamer, had been wrecked at Port Phillip Heads ; the Captain and two others were drowned. Sydney wool sales had been w r ell attended, full rates maintained. Breadstuffs unaltered.
