Joseph Williams was charged under the Vagrant Ordinance with having no lawful or visible means of support. The prisoner had been observed by the police trying the doors of Messrs Yule's store, in Tay-street, at about half-past 11 o'clock the previous night. He was afterwards seen trying the door of Messrs Mair and Grarven's premises in the same street, when Constable Tuohy went up to *him for the purpose of searching him for housebreaking tools. The .prisoner made a fierce resistance, and was, with some difficulty, removed to the. lock-up. It appeared from the evidence of the police that the prisoner had been twice convicted as a vagrant at Campbelltown, and had done but a few days' work since he came to the Province: — eight months ago. Frequent complaints had been made against him by persons in town, whom he had annoyed, and he was a terror to women living on the Town Belt. The Eesident Magistrate said the prisoner was a very dangerous man, and seeing that he had been twice before convicted, he should sentence him to two months' imprisonment, with hard labor. TUESDAY, Ist MAY. James Douglas was fined 10s., or 24 hours' imprisonment, for drunkenness. THURSDAY, 3ed MAY. Civil Cases. beacfield t. gall. Claim for 7s 6d, three days' wages. Judgment for plaintiff 6s ; with costs, 7s.
