r Mr-T. *M-: CLERK brought up the ; report of the Committee appointed to prepare a reply to his Honor the Superintendent's address, and moved that it be -read. Mr ARMSTRONG seconded the motion. The following is tjhe reply :— Tour Honor having been pleased, to call us together, in consequence ofthe meeting of the Colonial Parliament in the latter part of this month, the various ; matters contained in the Address 'which • you have laid before us shall receiye at our hands the most thoughtful .consideration.; - This Council, while regretting the necessity of having to provide funds to meet the award made in the case of the late Railway Engineer against the.Provincial Government, will nevertheless give the Provincial Liabilities Confirmation Ordinance No. 2, 1866, its careful attention. .:■■.- \ . The Council is glad to learn that the Bluff Harbor and Jnvercargill Railway is expected to be opened for traffic about the end of June. - The Bill authorising your Honor to lease that railway when completed, as also one having reference to the conditional leasing of the Oreti Railway, shall receive ' our earnest consideration. ■ The Police Ordinance, 1862, Extension and Amendment Ordinance, 1866, will also receive our best attention. The Council entirely approves of the prudence shown by your Honor in dealing with the present claims of the gold miners who are now working on the . Pahi and Longwood Districts. - On the motion of Mr CLERK the reply was adopted
