The following statement appears on the Supplementary Estimates presented to the House of Commons for the year 1855-6 : — " An estimate of the sum required in the year ending on the 31st March, 1866, to make good advances from the Treasury Chest in New Zealand, and from army grants, on account of expenses caused by the war in that colony, such advances being repayable by the Colonial Grovernment. Advances from the Treasury Chest in 1861-2, to pay Colonial allowances to onicers of her Majesty's ships 5,000 3. Advances in cash to the Colonial Government, between August and December, 1863 186,000 4. Pay and allowances to local Militia and native levies, to 31st March, 1865, due to Army grants . . . 67,700 i 5. Provisions, fuel, and light, and services paid by the Commissariat ' Department, to 31st March, 1865 187,500 6. Road-making, paid by the Commissariat Department, to 31st | March, 1865 31,800 7.
