The boat Alhambra, from the West Coast, with nine passengers for the Riverton diggings, arrived here this morning, and is anchored at the Heads, windbound. The s.s. William Miskin, Captain Hephurn, from Hokitika, arrived at the wharf at 1 p.m. to-day. She left Hokitika on Monday, the 23rd inst. -. reports strong N.N.E. winds to the West Cape, from thence strong westerly winds. The William Miskin will sail from Dunedin for Hokitika and the Grey — calling at the Bluff — about 30th inst. Tn consequence of the extraordinary low tide on Wednesday in Dunedin Bay, caused through the heavy S.W. gale keeping the waters of the harbor back, the steamer G-olden Age was unable to get alongside the* jetty to embark the mails for England and passengers, until about 5 p.m., and did not arrive at the Rangitoto until 7 p.m. ; it then being quite dark, and the gale continuing with unabated fury,- accompanied by rain and thick ■weather, rendered it dangerous for any vessel to proceed down channel. Pilot Louden was engaged to take tha. Rangitoto to sea, but did not start with her till daylight yesterday morning and cleared the Heads at 6 a.m. — Daily Times, 20th ApriL The bar is now in excellent order, or rather was so, unless the south-wester of yesterday has silted it up again. On Sunday a splendid channel was broken out by the current, wfth a deeper water than has been for a long time. A large . portion of the north spit, where vessels used to ground, was .taken off to sea, and on Monday morning rn ere nai aouc botch, foet of water on the bar at low water. It is to be hoped that this state of things may last. — OTcarita Times. We are glad to be able to announce the safe departure of the Lioness, after her somewhat lengthy imprisonment here. This has been the only unlucky trip she has ever made on the West Coast, and we are sincerely sorry that Okarita should have been the disastrous port. Not only was she detained some time, but on making the first attempt at exit on Saturday last was brought up by the shallow channel. — Ibid.
