TN pursuance of tiie power vested in me in in that behalf, I do hereby fix and proclaim that the Sixth Session of the Second Provincial Council of the ftovince of Southland shall oe held within the Masonic Hall, Kelvin-street, InvercargiU, in the said Province, and shall commence on Wednesday, th» second day of May next, at 12 o'clock Noon : And the Members of the said Council are hereby warned to give their attendance at the said time and place accordingly. ELECTRIC TELEGtRAPH DEPARTMENT. /\N THE Ist APRIL, a change wfll take place in the charges for the transmission of Telegrams on the lines of the - General Government The charge for 10 words wfll be reduced by a one-half of what is charged at present. After the first 10 words tihe charges wfll increase at a rate, per word instead of per 10 words, and 25 words as hitherto. With a view to curtailing addresses which are now frequently unnecessarily long, and seriously impede the progress of business, the address and signature of all Telegrams wfll be charged, in fact, aU matter written = and presented fot transmission hy the sender of any Telegram -will be charged at the tariff rates. Instructions as to the deUvery of Telegramsj whether by post, special messenger, boatj or otherwise wfll be telegraphed by the officer in oharge of any station, to the receiving station free of expense to the sender of the Telegram. These instructions together with the charges made, wfll be written on the back of the Telegram and signed by the sender. When such instructions are included in addresses or Telegrams, they require to be ' signalled twice, and must therefore be paid once when written unnecessarily. Officers in charge are required to exact perfect addresses, to insure the deUvery of Telegrams^ and the pubUc wfll he interested in furnishing the shortest and most concise addresses allowable.
