General Government Advertisements. 3 GENEEAL GOYEENMENT. ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH DEPARTMENT ' TxTS THE Ist APRIL, a change will take place • in the charges for the transmission o: 1 Telegrams on the lines of the G-enera Government. The charge for 10 words will be reduced by t one-half of what is charged at present. After the first 10 words the charges will increas< at a rate, per word instead of per 10 words, anc 25 words as hitherto. With a view to curtailing addresses which are 'now frequently unnecessarily long, and seriously , impede the progress of business, the address and signature of all Telegrams will be charged, ii fact, all matter written and presented foi transmission by the sender of any Telegram will be charged at the tariff "Instructions as to the delivery of Telegrams, whether bj post, special messenger, boat, oi otherwise will be telegraphed by the officer in r charge of any station, to the receiving station free of expense to the sender of the Telegram. These instructions together with the charges made, will be written on the back of the Telegram and signed by the sender. V When such instructions are included ir addresses or Telegrams, they require to be signalled twice, and must therefore be paid once when written unnecessarily. Officers in charge are required to exact perfeel addresses, to insure the delivery of Telegrams • and the public will be interested in furnishing th< - shortest and most concise addresses allowable.
