General Government Advertisements. G-ENEEAL aOYEENMENT. ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH DEPARTMENT. /"»N THE Ist APRIL, a change will take place in the charges for the transmission of Telegrams on the lines of the -General Government. The charge for 10 words will bo reduced^ by a one-half of what is charged at present. . After the first 10 words the charges will increase., at a rate, per word instead of per 10 words, and 25 words as hitherto. With a view to curtailing addresses, which are now frequently unnecessarily long, and seriously impede the progress of business, the address and signature of all Telegrams be charged, in fact, all matter written and presented for transmission by the sender of any Telegram will be charged at the tariff t rates. ; Instructions as to the delivery of Telegrams, whether by post, special messenger, boat, or otherwise will be telegraphed by the officer in charge of any station, to the receiving station free of expense to the sender of the Telegram. These instructions together with the charges made, will be written on the back of the Telegram and signed by the sender. When such instructions are ' included in addresses or Telegrams, they require to be signalled twice, and must therefore be paid once when written unnecessarily. Officers in charge are required. to exact perfect addresses, to insure the delivery of Telegrams, and the public will be interested in furnishing the ' shortest and most concise addresses allowable. Tariffs may be seen at all the stations of the Department when every information can be obtained. ALFRED SHEATH, General Superintendent. , Wellington, 24th March, 1866.
