PRESBYTERY OE SOUTHLAND.
On "Wednesday, 4th inst., the ordinary quarterly meeting of the Presbytery of Southland was held within the church, at Wallacetown. Present— -Eev. Messrs Stobo, Clark, Alexander, ministers ; and Messrs M'Kercher, Gumming, Grant, elders. Mr C. Clark was elected Moderator for the ensuing year. After Divine service, conducted by the Key. Mr Alexander, the Presbytery proceeded in the usual form to induct the Eev. Andrew Stevens into the charge at Wallacetown, and at the close, the congregation gave him a hearty welcome. Mr Stevens' name was then added to the Roll of Presbytery. The financial statements of the various congregations for the /ear 1865 were read, and it was intimated that these had been transmitted to the general treasurer of the church, and had been printed for general circulation. The Moderator reported that he had received advices from the Scottish Bible Society, that in answer to the Presbytery's application they had transmitted 323 Bibles and Testaments to be sold at prices ranging from 3d. to 3s. 6d. Mr. Clark, having left the chair, moved — that the various ministers within the bounds be instructed on an early Sabbath to call the attention of their congregations to the universality and permanent obligation of the Sabbath. This motion was unani-r mously agreed to. A- plan and specification for the manse at Wallacetown were laid on the table, and generally approved of. Extract minutes of the Synod of Otago and Southland were read, recommending in addition to the • two annual collections a collection ,to b% made in behalf of the New Hebrides mission. After some other routine business the Presbytery adjourned to meet at Riverton, on Wednesday, 21st June, at 12 o'clock.
