TX7HEREAS it is expedient to empower the Superintendent of * * the Province of Southland to appoint a Commission for the 1 purpose of examining into and reporting upon the management of i the construction of the Rauways of the said Province authorised to . s be constructed under the authority of certain Ordinances of the I Superintendent and Provincial Council of the said Province and for r other purposes : s Be it therefore enacted bjs *fche Superintendent of the ' Province of Southland by and with the advice and consent of the Provincial Council thereof as follows : " i 1. The Short Title of this Ordinance shall be " The Railway •» Commission Ordinance, 1866." , , a 2. It shall be lawful for the Superintendent of the Province of Southland by warrant under his hand to appoint any number of \ persons not less than two nor more than five to be Commissioners i under this ' Ordinance for the purpose of examining into and 3 reporting upon the management and conduct of the construction of 3 the Railways of the Province and all such other matters relating f thereto as shall be referred to them by the Superintendent. Such Commissioners shaU have authority to receive and • examine evidence and they are hereby empowered c tb administer an 5 oath or to take an affirmation from all such witnesses as may \ appear or be brought before them. Such Commissioners or any two of themshallhavepowerfrom: » time to time to summon before them all such witnesses as may be ■ thought necessary or requisite°to enable them to make aiull examina- o ! tion into and a just report upon the matters referred to them. ' 5. Any person to whom an oath shall have been administered > or who shall have taken an affirmation under this Ordinance giving \ any false evidence shall be . liable to a penalty not exceeding I One Hundred Pounds or in lieu thereof to be imprisoned for anyF term not exceeding six calendar months. 6. Any person who having been duly summoned to give evidence before such Commissioners shall wilfully refuse to attend or having attended shall refuse to be sworn or to give evidence shall be liable to a penalty of One Hundred Pounds or in lieu thereof [ to be imprisoned for any term not exceeding six calendar months. ,: ! 7. It shall be the duty of the \ Commissioners after hearing all evidence which shall be adduced before them to make a true ; and just report to the Superintendent within three calendar months after their appointment upon the matters referred to them. THE PROVINCIAL LIABILITIES CONFIRMATION ORDINANCE 1866. ♦ An Ordinance to Confirm certain Engagements and Liabilities^ made and incurred by the Superintendent of the Province of Southland in addition to those already co?ifirmed by the " Provincial Liabilities Confirmation Ordinance, 1865." WHEREAS it is expedient to confirm certain liabilities incurred by the Superintendent of the Province of Southland in addition to those already confirmed by the " Provincial Liabilities., ■ Confirmation Ordinance, 1865," of the Local Legislature of the said Province Be it therefore enacted by the Superintendent or the Province of Southland with the advice and consent of the Provincial Council thereof as follows : 1. The Short Title of this Ordinance shall be " The Provincial Liabilities Confirmation Ordinance, 1866 ( Supplementary)." 2.
