NiL EokitiJca Chronicle Office. Friday, 2 ith March. The duty collected on imports this day amounted to £283 17s 7d. No entries were passed on gold to-day. Since our last report business has assumed a quieter aspect, buyers restricting themselves to immediate requirements ; prices have, however in no way receded. The arrivals during the past week, and for some time past, have been of a very limited charcter, justifying importers in refusing less favorable rates. There still exists s very great difficulty in quitting large parcels of goods to hand, at anything lik e their approximate value ; and, as an additional evil, the Greymouth market is for the present, at least, closed to this port, importers tkere having to submit to the sacrifices which ruled here some months back. A few parcels of wines, spirits, tobaccos, &c, have been shipped from that quarter to this market.
