South Australia left Port Philip Heads at 4.40 p.m. March 17th, with fine weather till noon of the 21st, when she had strong winds and thick weather; 5 p.m. passed the Solander, 7 p.m hove-to till 5 a.m. 22nd. Arrived at the Bluff at 6.30, three-quarters of an hour before the Tararua. Left the Bluff at noon, at 6 p.m. abreast of the Nuggets, • ngines going dead slow till daylight. Entered the Heads at 9 a.m. 23rd. When outside saw the Helenslee making signals ; could only make out one, which was 4307.— Daily Times. The ship Helenslee, from Glasgow, still continues anchored at the Heads, awaiting a change of wind to make the Port. The schooner John Bullock, and a brigantine name unknown, are also at anchor outside. — Ibid. A collison, which might have been attended ■with serious results, occurred on the Yarra, on Saturday evening. The Bteam-tug Black Eeagle, in towing the b.b. Havilah up the river, had got as far as the Long Eeach, when the b.b. Barwon, outward bound for Hokitika, was observed coming down the middle of the stream. The Black Eagle then kept as closely to the south bank of the river as the nature of her tow would permit ; but it is alleged that just at this point the helm of the Barwon was suddenly put a-star lboard, and the consequence was that she ran into the tug before the sponson, carrying away the sponaon beam and the paddle-box. The casualty did not end here, for the Havilah, with the way Bhe had on har, came crash on to the stern of the Black Eagle, and tore her from stern-post to paddle-box, on the port side, down to the water's edge, making quite a wreck of her. The Barwon proceeded on her way, and the Black Eagle and Havilah were towed up by the Hercules. — Argus, 12th inst. On Saturday last the hired transports Percy and Ballarat were finally surveyed, and passed, preparatory to embarking the 68th Begiment for England The board of officers consisted of General Chute, Colonel Gamble, Colonel Pitt, Colonel Greer, Dr Gibb, aud Captain Spain, Eesident Transport Officer, and they expressed themselves highly satisfied, with every arrangement that had been made for the accommodation of the troops, and at the same time remarking that two finer or more suitable vessels could not have been chosen for transport service. The first ship to ge} away will be the Percy. — New Zealand Herald.
