A DENIAL.
(TO THE LEDITOB OV TEE SOUTHLAND TIMES.) Sic, — A correspondent, in your issue of this morning, under anonymous guise, has, with more haste than discretion, thrown out certain pointed inuendos containing insinuations of a perusal nature, and attaching to me the authorship of certain letters which have graced the columns of your contemporary, subscribed " Jenkins." I think, Sir, you exceed the bounds of propriety in opening your columns for the circulation of anonymous personal insults, when such remarks are, as in the present case, based on purely hypothetical conclusions. It appears that it is my misfortune to be personally obnoxious to your correspondent, "Sam Slick," and hence his unscrupulousness in seizing what he considered to be an opportunity to exhibit his animus. A love of groping in the dark has, however, led him into the not unusual mistake of hasty and inaxperienced hands — trying to put the saddle on the wrong horse, as I am neither the author of " Jenkins' " letters, nor in any way identified with " the Jenkins lot." — Eespectfully, G-eo. Lumsden. March 23rd, 1866. [We insert this communication, notwithstanding that the writer has jumped at a conclusion which we do not think he is justified in doing from the remarks of " Sam Slick." We certainly did not take those remark as applying to Mr Lumsden.— En. S.T.
