CHINA.
The ship Pride of the Ganges left Whampoa for British. Guiana on the 18th December, with 400 emigrants. On the 31st au outbreak occurred. The Chinese killed the captain and purser. The rest of the officers took refuge in the rigging. After a parley, the mate landed the Chinese on the coast ©f Haina, and then proceeded to Hong Kong. Government was instituting searching inquiries. The barque Paladin, — Page, from Sydney to Shanghai, has been wrecked near Bordelaise Island. The captain and crew wore saved after great hardship. The Rebels cause much anxiety in the north of China. Alarming newa has been received from Hankow. A large rebel force was within thirty miles of the city. The leading Imperialist general had joined the rebels. H.M. gunboat Algerine had been sent to Hankow to aid the Imperialists. Refugees crowding in from all quarters. Piracy continued unabated. The French barqoe Jeannie and Joseph was attacked and plundered thirty miles from Hong Kong, and two of the crew murdered. The American brigantine Alma was captured, after a long engagement with junks. The captain and crew, expecting two, escaped. The Albert and Juro were attacked within the limits of Hong Kong Harbor. They beat off the pirates. Commercial affairs are brighter. Tonnage considerably decreased. Numerous engagements at advanced rates.
