RIVERTON.
(fbom ottb own corbespondent.) March 16th, 1866. The Pahi diggings is creating some attention here, and I doubt not in your city. As Mr Weldon's report is now before the public it would be on this occasion, presunrption to venture an opinion on them. Suffice it to say that, from information I have received myself, and from the reports of those going and returning, his remarks can entirely be endorsed. By a steady influx of population the ground will be satisfactorily prospected, and no doubt the result will be beneficial to all. A few ounces of gold have been sold in town during the week. Pour sailors were brought up at the Eesident Magistrate's Court on. Monday, before H. Nurse, Esq., on suspicion of being deserters -from the " Maria." They, were remanded to Invercargill. Captain M'Kenzie was charged with assault. The plaintiff— his wife — not wishing to press the charge, he was bound" over to keej) the peace for six months. . The Petrel has left for Jackson's Bay. The weather during the former part bf week was delightful, and though we have had heavy rain, it is apparently again clearing up.
