MONTHLY SUMMARY SUMMARY FOR E U ROPE.
• .... ■> ■ ■ _ POLITICAL— GENEBAL. :i There is but little under this head of interest. The Geneeral Assembly will meet next month. The elections throughout the whole colony, as far as they have gone, have created much interest, and the question of Separation has been the main point upon which the elections of th« Middle Island ha 3 been determined ; and the Northern Provinces of Auckland have returned only pledged advocates of thia reform. The next session of the General Assembly will be one of great importance, a change of the system of government, if not Separation is ineveitable. The nature of the change it is impossible to even predict. The statements of candidates in all quarters has been that a radical reform must take place, but the_ precise nature of it none have been bold enough to dertermine. The ensuing month will be one of vast moment to theentire colony. ThenecessityforSeparation is becoming daily more urgent. The Native war appears to be drawing; to a close. There has not been battles of any great importance. General Chute kas proved himself " the right man in the right place ;" instead of following in th« footsteps of his predecessor, General Cameron, and refusing to attack until supported by an immense army of " regulars " he has, whenever an attack was desirable, called to his aid the Colonial forces and the Native Contingent. The result has been uninterupted success, and the Natives are now thoroughly aware that they must succumb. The war may be considered approaching its end. Thejnost determined Kingite chiefs, have given up the conflict, and are using their influence to induce the small remnant of brave men who are still fighting, that their cause is hopeless.
