The Southland Times. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14, 1866.
The Provincial Council last night was almost entirely devoted to the reading of a vast amount of correspondence upon the railways, Mr. Maecha^t's claims, and the policy of sending these claims for adjustment by arbitration. A very lengthy discussion ensued, in which the Government was severely censured by the principal speakers — Messrs. Cixtiibertson Holmes, Stfaut, and Menzies. Mr. Cuthbeetsojt moved a vote of censure upon the Government, that gave rise to averyauitnateddebate, which was coutiuued to close upon 12 o'clock, when an adjourn - ment to this evening waa carried. We have a full report, but the late hour at which the proceedings terminated preclude usfroin publishing it in our preseut issue Great interest appeared to be taken by the members of the House, and a very large company of visitors.
