March 10. Arrived — Southland and Phoebe, from Dunedin. The election fov the city took place yesterday. There was considerable excitement. The state of the poll was : — Paterson, 61 0 ; Reynolds, 608 ; Birch, 119 ; Miller, 2L3 ; Grant, 215 ; Graham, 4. Official declaration on Tuesday — Hanghton returned for Hampdon without opposition.
