MY COTTAGE HOME.
On a pretty ferny terrace, Where the mapu and wild vines Lovingly do twine together, Stands this quiet home of mine, Where the wild flowers bloom the sweetest, And the birds do love to come, And where the brightest sunbeams linger, Is my little cottage home. To be sure no terraced gardens Are around my simple cot, No choice exotics ; yet as sweet The wild forget-me-not ; No peak, except the pine trees, Through which the breezes roam, Yet nature Beems to bless me In my pretty cottage home. , Some boast of fame and glory, And others sordid wealth, Yet I care not for their glitter, With the bless'd boon of health ; The king may claim his palace, And the titled lord his dome, They know not the enjoyment Of a simple cottage home. J. P. W. Waianiwa, Feb. 18.
