JN T-ETTEB9, BOOK-PAOKETS, AND NEWSPAPEBS WITH THE BEGULATION3 AFFECTING THE POSTAGE, TBANSMISSION, AND DELIYEBY OF THE SAME. Lettebs. I. —lnland Lettebs. From any part of New Zealand to any other part of New Zealand : — Not exceeding £ oz 2d. Exceeding A- oz. and not exceeding 1 oz. 4d. loz., „ 2oz. Bd. And so on, increasing fourpence for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. 2.—To the United Kingdom. By Southampton or by direct ship — Not exceeding i oz 6d. Exceeding £ oz., and not exceeding 1 oz. Is. „ loz., „ 2oz. 2s. And so on, increasing one shilling for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. By Marseilles — Not exceeding £ oz. in weight lOd. Exceeding £ oz., and not exceeding 1 oz., Is. Bd. „ 1 oz. „ 2 oz., 3s. 4d. „ 2oz. „ 30z., 6s. BH. Every ounce after the first Is. Bd. 3. —To Bbitish Colonies and Fobeign Counteies. (For which mails are made up direct.) Not exceeding £ oz 6d. Exceeding § oz., and not exceeding 1 oz. Is. 1 oz., „ 2 oz. ■ 2s. To France and Algesia and Foeeign COTJNTBIES, THEOIJGH FBANCE. For these rates see Table (C.) 5. —xo THE CONTINENT OF EUBOPE via TEIESTE Not exceeding § oz Is. Exceeding i oz., and not exceeding 2s. „ loz., And so on, increasing two shillings for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. 6.—To Sybia and Tubkey. Letters will be forwarded vid Alexandria and Jaffa (unless marked for transmission via the United Kingdom), and will be charged as follows : — Not exceeding & oz lOd. Exceeding |oz. andnotexceedingloz.,ls. lid. And so on, increasing one shilling and tenpence for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. 7. —To China and the Eastebn Aechepelago. Letters addressed to Kon^kong, Penang, Singapore, and any part of China, or Japan, the Phillipin Islands, Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Labuan, the Moluccas, and Siam, are chargeable as follows : — Not" exceeding £ oz Is. Exceeding £ oz., and not exceeding loz 2s. And so on, increasing two shillings for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. B. —To Naval Opficebs on Foeeign Stations Letters addressed to Officers serving on board any of Her Majesty's sl.ips on a foreign station, when sent through the United States, are charge-, able as follows : — Not exceeding k oz Is. Exceeding £ oz., and not exceeding 1 oz. 2s. „ 1 oz. „ 2 oz. 4s. And so on, increasing two shillings for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. 9. —To Naval Seamen and Soldiees. Letters sent to or by Seamen and Soldiers in Her Majesty's Service will be trarsmitted within omce m me .tsrmsn dominions, at a charge of one penny, provided that the following regulations are observed : — 1. Each letter must not exceed half an ounce in weight. 2. It must be superscribed with the name the writer, Ins description or class in the vessel or regiment, and signed by the officer at the time in command. 3. The postage must be prepaid. Every letter of this description posted or received in this colony, not in accordance with the foregoing regulations, will be treated as an ordinary letter. The postage upon these letters must iv all cases be paid in advance. Fbee Lettebs. I Letters on the public service of Her Majesty' naval and military forces are exempted from the payment of postage, if bearing the words " On Her Majesty's Service," and the signature of the officer in ccmmand of the force on the service of which the letter is despatched. But such letters cannot be transmitted by any irregular route, or one entailing additional expense on the Colonial Government. Letters on the public service of the General Government of the Colony are transmitted free by post, if bearing the words "On the public service only," and the signature of some ollicer. of the General Government authorised to frank letters. 11. —Registebed Lettebs. Registration Fee Is. In addition to the ordinary postage chargeable on any Letter —except in special cases. Newspapebs. 1. To any part of the Colony, if published in the Colony ... ... ... Free. 2. To the United Kingdom, via Southampton, or by direct ship ... Free To the United Kingdom, vid Marseilles, each... ... ... ... 3d. 3. To the Continent of Europe, vid Trieste, each 2d. 4. To Syria and Turkey (not through the United Kingdom) not exceeding two ounces ... ... ... ... Id. And so on, at the rate of one penny for every additional two ounces. Book Packets. 1. To any part of the Colony, the Australian Colonies, or to the United Kingdom vid Southampton. JNot exceeding 4 oz. ... ... ... 4d. Exceeding 4 oz., and not exceeding 8 oz. Bd. „ 8 oz. „ 16 oz. Is 4d. And so on, increasing eight pence ior every additional half-pound, or fraction of half-a--pound. - 2. The following British Colonies : — Ascension, lonian Islands Bermuda, Natal * British West Indies New Brunswick Canada, Newfoundland, Cape of Good Hope, Nova Scotia, Falkland Islands, Prince Edward Island Gambia, St. Helena Gold Coast, Sierra Leone, Heligoland, Vancouver's Island.
