Glasgow — Ship Maria ; sailed 16th November. ♦ The Ship Star of Tasmania ha 3 now on board a full cargo of wool, consisting of 1944 bales, and as soon as the stowing of the same is completed, she will leave Oamaru for Otago Heads, to ship her passengers, probably about the end of the present week. Last year, her cargo consisted of 1940 bales. The ship King of Italy arrived at Lyttelton yesterday at 8 a.m., having left Newcastle at 10 a.m. on the 17th ult., thus making the passage in sixteen days. Captain Meredith reports having experienced very strong gales from the north-west, which caused the loss of several sails. — Canterbury Press, 2nd Feb. The Isabella Jackson left Lyttelton on the 20th ult., with a light westerly wind, and arrived off Hokitika on the 25th, towing over the bar same day. During the passage moderate breezes and fine weather prevailed. She brings a full general cargo to our port. Captain Elmsley reports that when abreast of the Buller, he fell in ■ with an immense quantity of drift wood, some of it very large timber. This would lead to the supposition that the river must have lately been visited by violent floods. — West Coast Times, Jan. 26. We regret having to record the stranding of the schooner Wallace at the Grey recently. Two gentlemen who had just left the township, en route for Hokitika, witnessed the occurrence, and their account is that the Wallace attempted to enter the river under canvas, but through the •wind falling light, the current overpowered her, and swept her on to the north spit, nearly abreast the signal staff. The Wallace was seven weeks out from the Molyneux. ♦ — :
