Saturday, 27th Jajtttary. An information against David Bennett M'Connel, for the purpose of binding him to keep the peace towards Catharine Murphy, was withdrawn. Harriet M'Connel, wife of the abovenamed defendant, was charged, on the information of Timothy Murphy, with assaulting him. It appeared from the evidence of complainant that the defendant was in his house on the 25th instant, and a quarrel took place, during which defendant threw a stone at complainant, which struck him in the eye. The complainant stated that he merely required the defendant to be bound over to keep the peace, and did not wish her to be punished for the assault. The Eesident Magistrate having questioned the complainant as to whether he was in fear of the defendant, his replies did not seem to warrant his Worship in binding her to keep the peace, and the case was dismissed.
