l The following notices appeared in the Southland Police Gazette of Ist January : — £100 Rewaed. — John Jones, alias King, alias 1 Poole, is charged with having at Waipori, Otago, > on the morning of the 23rd instant, mortally • stabbed one Atkinson, and a Mrs. Dickson. Jones ■ is a Welshman, but calls himself a native of • Liverpool, England, aged about 26, sft. 7in. medium build, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers, no moustache, large mole on bridge of nose, mole on one cheek, and anchor badly tattooed on one 1 arm. He has been a sailor, but has for some time past worked as a butcher. £100 reward is offered for his apprehension. An unsuccessful attempt was made early on the morning of the 25th instant, to set fire to a small store situated at the junction of Deveron and Leet Streets, Invercargul, but owing to the prompt discovery of the flames by the occupant, one Mrs . Dalton, the damage done was inconsiderable. Stolen some time between the early part of . September last, and the middle of the present month, from an untenanted house on the North Road, Invercargill, five bullock hides of various colors and brands ; the property of William B. Kingswell, Dee-street, Invercargill. Not identifiable. Stolen from the Royal Hotel, Palmerston-street, Riverton, on the night of the 22nd or morning of the 23rd instant, two £o notes, and four £1 notes, all of the Bank of Otago, and a half sovereign ; the property of Hugh Price, carrier, Riverton. Nos. and dates of notes unknown, not identifiable. Stolen or lost in the dwelling of James Burke, off Esk-street, Invercargill, between the 14th and 28th instant, a colonial gold ring, weighing about half-an-ounce, JB engraved on a heart, supported by two hands, and 14 small nuggets of New Zealand gold, weighing altogether 16 dwts, one of them flat, with a small hole in it, some of them identifiable. Found lying on the Mokomoko Beach, on the 3rd ulto., and now in the office of the Commissioner of Police, Invercargill, a pocket book containing a Deposit Receipt of the Bank of New South Wales for £25, and other papers ; the property of one James Duncan, supposed to be at present at the West Coast Diggings. Found on the East Road, near Invercargill, on the 24th instant, and now in the office of the Commissioner of Police, a dark brown fur Victorine. Owner required. Deserted from the "Zephyr," at Invercargill Jetty, about 3 a.m. 7th instant : — George Rupprecht, a German, aged 26, 5 ft. 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, light hair, sandy goatee, and no moustache. Hermann Peterson, a German, aged 23, 5 ft. 9 or 10 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, light hair, no whiskers or moustache. Jans T. Jans, a Dane, aged 26, 5 ft. 8 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, no whiskers Or moustache. Richard Faville, a Kentish-man, aged 23, 5 ft. 6 or 7 inches high, slight build, sallow complexion, Vdark hair, small dark moustache, and rather flatfooted. A baker by trade. Deserted from the "Star of Tasmania" at Bluff Harbor, about 5 a.m. 10th instant : — Thomas Connor, an Englishman, aged 22, 5 ft. 10 or 11 inches high, stout build, dark brown curly hair, and no beard. Herbert Jaggs, an Englishman, aged 21, 5 ft. 6 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, light brown hair, and no beard. John McGregor, an Englishman, aged 25, (height not stated) medium build, black hair, and small dark whiskers. Enquiries are being made, through the office of the Hon. the Colonial Secretary, Wellington, for one Samuel Edwin Outhwaite Wilson, who is said to have left Melbourne about two years ago in the ship " Solway " for Otago, and has not since been heard of. (No description furnished.) Information is requested respecting a Mr 3. Wilson, said to be residing in some part of Southland. She is the wife of one William Wilson, a German Jew, aged about 40, very dark complexion, and grey hair, a cow doctor. Information is requested respecting Daniel Morton, who formerly kept the Aceomodation House, at the Long Ford Ferry, Mataura River. He is a north of England man, aged about 32, sft. 9 or 10 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, sandy beard, whiskers, and moustache. He is believed to be now on some of the West Coast Diggings, Canterbury Province. David Bennett M'Connell, Registrar of the Supreme Court, arrested by the Invercargul Deteotive Police on a charge of wilful murder, and remanded, has since been committed for trial. Josiah Perrin, arrested by the Invercargill Detective Police on a charge of embezzlement, and remanded, has since been sentenced to three months hard labor. Michael Matthews, and Walter Patterson, have been arrested by the Invercargill General Police, on a charge of wilfully damaging property, but subsequently discharged with a caution. William J. Mould, arrfested by the Invercargill General Police, on a charge of violent assault, has been sentenced to 14 days hard labor. Mary Ann O'Brien, arrested by the Invercargill General Police on charge of vagrancy, has been sentenced to one month's imprisonment. William Hardy, John Park, and John Kane, arrested by the Campbelltown General Police for insubordination on board the ship " Thracian," have been discharged with a caution. John Beaumont, arrested by the Campbelltown General Police on a charge of deserting from the " Star of Tasmania," was ordered to belplaced on board ship again. Joseph Williams, arrested by the Campbelltown General Police, c harged with having no lawful visible means of support, has been sentenced to one month's hard labor. List of Prisoners discharged from H.M. Gaol, Invercargill, since the publication of last list :— Joseph Williams, tried at Campbelltown, 13th November, 1865, for being illegally on premises!; sentence, 14 days hard labor. An Irishman, a seaman, born 1835, 5 ft. 4£ inches high, slight build, fair complexion, light hair inclined to grey, grey eyes, burn mark on right cheek, anchor on right hand, star on back of same, ring on second finger of right hand, American flag on right arm. William J. Mould, tried at Invercargill, 4th Dec. 1865, for violent assault, sentence, 14 day's hard labor. An Englishman, a seaman, born 1837, 5 ft. 7 inches high, medium build, fresh, complexion, light hair, hazel eyes, — Faith, Hope and Charity, on right arm. Information is requested respecting Patrick O'Rig, or Orig, an Irishman, Jwho was at work on Government roads near Matlock, Victoria, and left in June with the intention of going to New Zealand. A warrant has been issued at Melbourne against Desborough alias W. G. Laurence, for uttering a valueless cheque to John R. Wyse, at Melibourne on the 13th of November. He is an Englishman, aged 22, sft 10 or 11 inches high, dark complexion, small blue eyes set close together, very short, dark hair, of gentlemanly appearance, and well educated. He is said to have come from Adelaide. He is lame of one knee, and walks with a stiok. He is believed to have gone to Otago. James Byrnes is charged on warrant with the murder of John Livingstone, at Cleveland Bay, Kennedy District, Queensland, on or about the 11th of August last. He is aged about 40, sft. 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, black hair, bald on top of head, ■whiskers shaved off, and large mouth, He was formerly living at Ballarat, Victoria, where he is supposed to have some property. A warrant has been issued by the Hokitika Bench for the arrest of a man named Thompson,, or Tonson, charged with having in February last, stolen from a brothel in Stafford-street, Dunedin, an open face gold English, lever watch, with > massive gold guard attached (both since recovered) the property of Thomas Martin, Provincial Hotel, Hokjt^ka. Thomson is an Englishman, aged i about 37, 6ft. 4 or 5 inches high, rather stout build, callow. complexion, brown h.air, Sght coloured , whiskers worn round chin,, a^d*") moustache. lie is a hawker, an.d s^U?. goods u.p>eountry> , and wbe» in Bunetfe naualiy mm &i the Qm
