LIEUT. LAWSON AND ENSIGN JENKINS DROWNED.

The Patea correspondent of the Southern Cross, writing on the 18fch ult., announces the death, by drowning, of Lieutenant Lawson and Ensign Jenkins, both of the 18th JJoyal Irish, which occurred while these officers were bathing on the beach on the right bank of the Patea river. Captain Shaw, of the same corps, was in the water also at the same time, and he was saved after great difficulty, and was greatly exhausted. The bodies of the two officers had not been recovered up to seven p.m., at which time the steamer was leaving.
