PORT OF INTELLIGENCE.
IVWAKDS. Dec. 31 to Jan. 5. — Nil. OUTWAEDS. Dec. 31 to Jan. 2.— Nil.
On Saturday last, an accident happened to the Southland steamer which necessitated her putting back from a voyage to Dunedin on which she had started. She left the jetty with a heavy deck load of wool for the Bluff, and on nearing the bar, it being then scarcely high water, the shallowness of the channel, and the weight on her deck rendered her helm almost useless, and she drifted broadside on to the bar, and shipped a- good deal of water, seriously damaging the wool, which has been unpacked and is undergoing the process of drying, and doing some injury to the deck houses for the accommodation of the crew. The repairs, however, haTe now been completed, and she left yesterday for Dunedin without accident. __»
