WANTON CRUELTY.
TO THE EDXTOK OI? THE SOUTIi:LA2O-> TIMES. Sus,—During tlie last few clays I have observed several persons offering dead kakas and pigeons for sale, from door to door in this town, and-I am informed that ducks, teal and other descriptions of game are also shot for sale at this time of the year. I cannot but regard the shooting of these birds now, as an act of wanton cruelty, because it is the breeding season, and the killing of every bird necessarily results in the destruction of several nestlings, or a number of eggs, and if this system be aUowed to go unchecked, the end will be that our native game will shortly-become extinct. I trust that when the Provincial Council meet, amongst other matters, an Act will be passed making it penal to destroy, offer for sale, or purchase any o£ these birds during the breeding season, and ill the meantime I beg to subscribe myself, AVIS. Long Bush, 20 Dec,
