VBERABOGAVASANTARAYAN.

Under this formidable name a new Avatar is, we are informed by die Madras Times, about to make his appearance in tho Southern pavfc of the peninsula, to crash, the English and to restore the Hindoo rule. In the year IS6G, , the guntloman of the above long name will be "Emperor, of all the' Indies," and has a pretty rod in pickle for the Euglish. ' In fact he is simply going to ' annihilate them, ivud to give their carcases to the dogs and to the fowls of the air. . But two short yoavs are given them, either to leave the country peaceably, ov he' destroyed. Tliis deity is supposed to be very highly conncctod, and his .birth is thus accounted ibr in- the, communications which are being publicly read out and interpreted evory day to the ryots and townsfolk of Tinnivelly, Madura ( and neighboring districts, Streeman Narqsimma Moorty, one of. the persons of, the Hindoo Trinity, himself wont and entered the womb of the faithful

and beautiful wife of Jevi Singh, M*haraj»h descendant of Kaharawa Rajah, and the rule? Q Cashmere, and has been aceordinglyborn, Ths birth took plaoe in January, 1884, in a cave on . the bants of the Godavery.; ,Ifc appears, therefore, that this good man -will only bo twelve years whon he performs his wondrous feate. Of course it is unnecessary to observe that there never lived such a person as " Jeyi Singh, ruler of Cashmere," but that is a small" matter in the eyes cf a native. The reason for a new Avatar is thus given s — The tricked peoolo of' this world- are increased in number,, the charities .are reduced, (l the great and good men are not distinguished from the badj.nnd the distinction of caste is unobserved. The world has become entirely sinful, -and therefore it cannot last. The only remedy for hi 3is an Avatar, resulting in the entire destruction of the British. The means by -which their annihilation will he 'effected are given beforehand, with this view, v it , may be supposed, that each Englishman,- woman, and child, may choose the pleasantest one of tb.a lot. They are not to be shot down and bayoneted j that would be far " top,' 1 good for them. But some -will he destroyed by pestilential seasons and by enemies', - some on account of their increased deceitfulness . by Ganadurghi Ammual herself. Somo will be,'consumed by a burning sensation in' their 'bodies, caused by smoke issuing out of KLyasagherry mountains ; some will die by "witnessing the dance of the favorite girls of the godsi' Id some parts of India tigers and snakes', in -other parti rains and the " Mullighi," a sort of ringworm in the heaa will do their deadly work. , Whilst all this is going on, and whilst several inferior deities are busy maiming and slaying in the different Zillahs, the foxes will howl and the kites and owls will cry out day and night ; all the living creatures in the water will lament that they have been' cast on shore. This is all bad enough, but far worse things will come to pas 3. A great noise- as thus Dana ! Dana ! ! will be heard from the 'mansion of the Sun. Siva's lock of hair will break away and and fall to the earth. The goddess Lutchmi will shed tears, the god Yeraragavan of Triyallor .trill perspire, by which some people will perish. The females will swim, and blood shall ooze from their eyes. All this silly nonsense, the Madras Time* asserts, is written in letters, and communicated to the masses freely, and openly religious mendicants of a speculative turn of mind buy copies; and earn a comfortable livelihood by reading a portion wherever they can collect a mob of idlers. If any refuse to contribute, they are forthwith cursed and abused in the filthiest language. Few have courage to resist the importunities of these modern friars, and the new business is being pushed day by day into the remotest and most out-of-the-way hamlets. — Homeward Mail.^
