" f ;;..<' . '. ' ' "The Southern members arrived in Auckland early on Monday; the 21st November, as : appointed, but found the session of the-Assembiy/put off till the 23rd. On Tuesday, it was ag^n put "off to the 24th, on "which day the" mail 'steamer left Auckland. The delay was" occasioned to 'enable the Governor to form a Ministry before he met the Assembly. His Excellency at once sent for Mi*. Weldi and after much negotiation,- the following Groverninent has been formed :— -. ... : , ^ . Mr. Weld, Colonial Secretary and Native Minister ; Mr. Fitzherbert, Colonial Treasurer and' Commissioner of Customs ; '"■ '" *"' Mi\ Seweil, Attorney- General ; Major EActtrdson, Postmasfcer-Greneral ; Major Atkinson', Colonial /Defence Minister. We understand that Mr. Weld laid before His Excellency, in -writting; certain ■ propositions, among which were, that the seat . of Grbvernment should be moved to WeUington forthwith; and that the troops should be sent away as.soon as tlie Imperial Government agreed , to. take them — (the colony ia the meanthuo paying S4O per head for any soldiers employed at the request of the Ministry.) To these propositions His Excellency is understood to have given a.general assent. The Ministry intend to make the adoption of the Panama Contract a Ministerial' question, and to go out upon it if not adopted." The New Zealand Herald o( the 23rd says : — " A Neio Zealand Gazette was published last night, further proroguing the Assembly until Thursday. This delay has taken place, we presume, in consequence of the difficulty experienced in forming a new Ministry. The names of Major Richardson, Mr. Sewell, and Mr. Crosbie Ward, are those now spoken of in connection with ;that of Mr. Weld."
