THE ELECTIONS.
The electors of the Aparima District met on the 11th instant, for the purpose of electing two members to represent that district in the Provincial Council. Mr. John Ho-vvell was proposed by Mr. ~W~. C. Scully, and his nomination was seconded by Mr. John Wood. Mr. Alexander M'Naughton then proposed, and Mr. T. Daniel seconded, the election of Mr. "W". H. Nurse. No other candidates being proposed, Messrs. Howell and Nurae were then declared duly elected. The nomination of candidates to represent the district of Eoslin took place on Saturday. Mr. T. Swale was proposed by Mr. T. Hamilton, and his nomination was seconded by Dr. M'Fadgen. Mr. "W. . Johnston w*is next proposed, and seconded by Messrs. A. Smith and E. Coupland ; aad Mr. James Wilson by Messrs. J. E. Collins and T. "F. Marshall. Addresses having been delivered by_ the candidates, and several questions being put and replied to, a show of hands was called for, which was declared in favor of Messrs. Johnston and Wilson. A poll was then demanded on behalf of Mr. Swale. The polling took place on Monday, when the result was as follows: — Swale, 33 ; Johnston, 33 ; Wilson, 22. Messrs. Swale and Johnstone were then declared duly elected" The electors of the District of Waianiwa met at the school-house, Waianiwa, for the purpose of nominating candidates for the representation of the district. Mr. J. F. Collins was the only candidate proposed, and the lteturning Officer thereupoii declared him duij ©lected. The retiiriiing officer, Mr. John. , Hare, haying briefly opened the proceedings, Mr. C..S. Button 1 was proposed and seconded by Messrs. J. Button, which -will be taken this day, at the Court House, Invercargill, between the hours of nine and four' o'clock. • - Dr. Menzies -addressed the" electors of Invercargill last night, in the Theatre Royal. . A report' of the proceedings will be found elsewhere in our columns. ,The nomination of members for Invercargill takes place to-morrow, at the Court House, at noon. The only other elections to f be decided are thdsefor "the districts of Oreti-and "Waiau. ' The nomination of members for .the former takes place thi3 day, and for the latter, to-morrow, at noon. ~
