THE GENERAL ELECTIONS.
District of Oterahtka. The election of a member to represent this district in the Provincial Council of Southland, took place on Monday last, at the Police Station, Dacre, at noon. .; -..-.:"..' There were about a dozen electors present, and Mr. M* Arthur, the Returning Officer,: ha ring opened the proceedings, . .._ . ..... .' Mr. Ditrsoi* moved- that Mr. Matthew Holmei was a fit and proper person, to represent the district in the provincial Council; ■• Mr. Hamilton seconded the motion. There being no opposition to his return, The Retubxixg- Officer then declared Mr. Matthew Holmes duly elected. RiVEnTON. A meeting of the electors took place at the Court-house, Riverton, on Monday last, for the purpose of nominating candidates for the representatim of the 'district in the 1 Provincial Conncil. Mr. Surman,. the. Returning Officer, having opened the proceedings, the fbUowing gentlemen were proposed, viz.— - - Mr. J). S. L.vwtOß proposed Dr. Hodgtinson as a fit and proper person to represent tho district in the Council. ■Mr, A.Cr.TJL'EB seconded his:nomin»tion. Af r. W. 11. Nurse then proposed Mr. J. CrcTKT, as a fit and proper person. ..fee. His nomination was seconded by Mr. J. I/. M : Donald. ' Mr. Bennett Ciay next proposod Mr. T. Daniels. . Mr. G.
