I thank you heartily for the honor you have conferred on me in asking me to become a candidate for a Beat in the Provhicial Council, to represent the district of Invercargill, and willingly accept your invitation. ; Such a mark of confidence from so large a number of Electors possesses at the present time a special value and significance which I fully -appreciate.- - - - -•- ■ ■ It was my intention, for reasons of a personal character, to nave retired for some tune from the field of Provincial politics in the course of the ensuing summer, but at the desire of many friends I lately agreed to delay acting- oh this intention, - «id ib resume for a time, the duties of Superintendent, in event of.behag re-elected to that o&ee by the new CounciL I would not have considered such a course to be an imperative duty if the cireumßtances of the Province Iwere more yoaperous.
