CANTERBURY.
A largo and influential mbeting was hold on tho 21st., to urge the convention of tho General Assembly in Ghristohurcli, &c. By tho meeting of tho Assembly at AucK-land, of course, part of ■the' resolutions passed are rendered abortivb. Tlio Press, with reference to the statement made by the Southern Cross that, the Assembly could not moot in Ghrstchurchj as there was no accommodation for it, says " this is a specimen of the acquaintance which tho Auckland mind has witn the rest of the colony. The Assembly could be received in Christchurch tomorrow morning in chambers which boar the same relation to those they have been compelled to meet in in Auckland, as a mansion to a dogkennel." » ■ , :
