As a singular illustration of despatch on the part of the Post Office authorities of Southland, we have to state that a firm in Invercargill received on Saturday last a copy of the first lesue of the Riverton Times, published on 25th January last! What renders the affair more absurd is that the paper came from the publishing office 'of that* journal, and inside was a request that the firm alluded to would become subscribers! The Riverton Times has been defunct somewhere about six months. The tender of Mr. Or. "Robertson, for the supply, of bread to the Hospital, for the' three monthsfrom this date (20th Sept.) to 20th December, has been accepted. Immediately after the meeting of the. Rifle Volunteer Company on 26th ult., (writes our cor-, respondent) a meeting was held for the purpose of eadeavoring" to form a Cavalry Volunteer Company for the district, when twenty-four names were, handed in at once. The meeting likewise proceeded to the election , of interim, officers, and Mr.* Mackenzie was elected to the post of captain," and llr. Robert M'Q-illivray's oifor to drill the " com-* panyfree of charge, was. unanimously .accepted^ The meeting then' adjourned till the,, evening "of Saturday first. * '""-* ' *
