THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
Bespecting the meeting of the General Assembly, the only information is contained in the following paragraph from the New Zealander : — A rumor has been current for the past day or two to the effect that the Government was about at once to call together the General Assembly, the only question in debate being as to where it should mcct — here or in Canterbury. There is also a rumor directly to the contrary effect, namely, that the Ministry have decided to take such action as to the loan as will obviate the necessity of calling together the Assembly until the usual time. It is also reported that the rumored disagreement between the Governor and his advisers is likely to tend in the resignation of the latter. The Wellington Independent of tne 4th says :— The rumors current on the arrival of the Ahuriri to the effect that the Ministry had tendered their resignation to his Excellency, received some confirmation ir. the intelligence brought by the Phoebe yesterday. The Auckland papers are singularly silent on the subject, but the tenor of our advices lead us to believe that there is some foundation for the rumors in question. Everything betokens that a political crisis was impending.
