RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Thursday 29th Seplember 1864. (Before H. M'Culloch Esq. R. M.) Samuel Smith, for being drunk in Dee-Street, ■rras fined 10s., or 24 hours, imprisonment. It appears that the man, when drunk, gave his child some brandy, which nearly caused its death, having been for several hour 3in a very precarious condition. Patrick Ford and Chas. Warden, for being drunk, were each fined ss. HORSE STEALING-. Lawrence Brown, on this charge, was brought up on remand on a charge of stealing a bay mare from James Gall, manager at the Oteramika station. The depositions of the witnesses were read over again, and the evidence of Mr. Mailer, as deposed at the Molyneux police court, was put in and read over in the hearing of the prisoner. It set forth that the mare was sold to Mailer by the prisoner aa hi 3 own property. The magistrate 'thought there was a prima facie case established, and committed the prisoner for trial at the ensuing sittings of the Supreme Court. The prisoner was allowed to find, two sureties of £25 each and himself in £50. Civil Cases clabk v. de winter and betge. Claim for £11 13s for work and labor done. Mr. Eussel appeared for the defendant Betge, and pleaded " not indebted " — Plaintiff deposed. — That Betge was in partnership with.De Winter in the property on which the repairs were executed. Defendant's evidence . went to prove that Betge had sold out his interest in the property prior to the repairs being done Verdict for defendant. The Court then rose.
