Lawrence Brown waß brought up on remand, on the above charge. ■ James Gall, manager on the Oteramika Station, deposed : — The mareoutsidethe court is mine. It iB a brown mare. I callit a brown mare. I did not give prisoner permission to take her. I saw her last at Mr. Douglas's station, on the Mataura plains. James Baker, stock-keeper to Messrs. Douglas, Alderson & Go., on the, Mataura plairisj deposed to thf^jnare as being the property of last witness. Witnesv took delivery of the mare at the station. Missed her last about hitter end of June. Did not suspect she was stolen, as I had: missed her several times before.; I looked 'for her andcould not find her. .: .-:..- "■.■'■■■ ' : i . A.
