Gentlemen,— A how me to thank you for tho flattering compliment you have paid tome, in requesting me to allow myself to be nominated as a cmdidato for tlie representation of the town of Invereargill in the new Provincial Council. I cannot hesitate to comply with a request emanating from so large and influential a body of my fellow-citizens. If I am elected, I shall do my best endeavors to promote and advance the interests of tlie province, having a large stake in its prosperity, wliich I believe will he best furthered by the prosecution of those public. works which will render its lands ava bible for settlement, and enable its produce to be carried cheaply to market. I look upon all other questions as secondary to this great object, believing that Southland possesses natural advantages that only require to bo properly developed to°make her one ofthe foremost provinces in New Zealand. Should I be elected, I will use my most earnest endeavors to procure a liberal amendment of the present Land Regulations, Educational Ordinance, and other laws that operate oppressively ! on the people.
