CHRISTCHURCH.

The Lyttelton Times of 3rd inst. has the following report of the consignees' meeting, respecting the unfortunate vessel the Countess of Seafield :— A meeting of the consignees of goods by the Countess of Seafield was held at the Mechanics' Institute shortly after two o'clock yesterday. Mr. Gould occupied the chair, and stated that the committee appointed to consider the matter regarding the bottomry bond of the above vessel, had drawn tip their resolutions accordingly. He might add that, in addition to the views expressed therein, it was the opinion of the committee that the consignees should be appointed to act as trustees in the matter, whose duty would be to collect subscriptions, to take assignment of the freight, get the vessel discharged as quickly as possible, and then to take such steps as would enable them to pay back to consignees the amount subscribed. Ho would read the resolutions to the meeting. '' The Committee having consulted with Mr. G-arriek on the legal points of the case, recommend as the best course to be adopted under the circumstances, that consignees should take an assignment of the bottomry- bond held at present over the vessel and cargo by the Bank of New Zealand, if the manager has the power to assign it, and that each consignee be called on to contribute his share pro rala on the invoiced value of the good 3. — George Gould, Chairman." On the motion of Mr. Sprot, seconded by Mr. Lawrie, Messrs. Buckley and Day were appointed trustees to carry out the foregoing resolutions.
