THE TARANAKI REFUGEES AND THE PEOPLE OF NELSON.
The following letter, with its inclosure, was received by the Superintendent from Taranaki a few days ago. On behalf of the people of Nelson, we feel justified in saying that it afforded them the greatest possible satisfaction to be able to render to the Taranaki refugees the small services which are here so gratefully acknowledged : — , His Honob the Sttpkrinteitdent, Nelson. Sib, — The Greneral G-overnment of the Colony having determined the period when, in its opinion, it will be no longer necessary for the Taranaki refugees; to remain in Nelson, it has become the pleasant duty of the Provincial Coun- | cil and. myself, to express our thanks to your i Government and the inhabitants of Nelson for the hospitality and great kindness shown to the Taranaki refugees. I inclose a copy of resolution passed "by the Provincial Council, concurring with me ; and I assure yon in conclusion, ; that " the families who hare been at Nelson as refugees, Trill' ever entertain kindly and grateful feelings for the kindness and hospitality extended to them by their entertainers, in Nelson. • ■•:•-; "\ : j .
