COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.

SottthliAltd Tiaras Office, Monday Evening-. The revenue collected at the Custom House today for articles. cleared for homo consumption was £17 Bs. 9d.. being duties levied as follows : — Brandy, 8J gallons .:. £3 18 9 Geneva, 30 „ .:. 13 10 0 - f £17 8 9 We have no change to report in the state of our markets. . k • -■•- •-■•■•■ ■■■■■-■■ Tho arrival of two lai'ge Vessels — the Sevilla and th« Gananoquo — at the Bluff, should be calculated to giTe an impulse to business ; but it is to be feared that at the present time their cargos will not meet with the demand, or tho prices) which warranted their consignment to our market.

From Hong Kong our dates are to the 29th June. Business in the import market was then bad, money was scarce, tho harvest indifferent, and the prospects generally, says the Overland Trade Report, " wear a decidedly dull appearance." The new congous were being shipped for London, for which port a steamship, the Sea King, had sailed from Hankow. Tho yield of silk was expected to be very small. Rice continued high. Of tea, it is said : — There is no feature of special remark. The new congous continue to be purchased and shipped with spirit, the competition being excited by a demand for the Russian market. On the whole, the quality of the present season's teas may be considered as good as those of last season. Any estimate of the extent of the crop must be founded on wild conjecture. The prospects for the coming crop of green teas have slightly improved, yet still the probability is, the supply will be deficient and dear, as a matter of course. From Canton there is little or no prospect of any new congous coming to this market this season. A good demand "still exists for fine tayshans. Scented orange pekoes are rather lower. Scented capers maintain their value. Canton greens tend down. From Foo-chow the latest report of the tea market (ISth Juno), is as follows :... "The transactions of the fortnight have been' considerable, the competitions for fine Kaisowa having increased. Taking quality into consideration, line teas are a little higher than the opening rates, whilst common and medium, owing to a demand for Australia, tend up. Souchongs have been taken to some extent, at about last season's opening rates. Flowery pekoes will be in small supply this season. Scented teas have been exhibited in moderate quantity, and although defective in scent, have been pretty eagerly picked up. The settlements of the fortnight arc thus reported:— Congous. 52,5000 chests, at 0.50 to 11.50 taels; for dusty and broken leaf, 17 to 19 taels ; for good common, 20 to 37.5 taels for tiavoury to very fine kaisows. Souchong — 7,500 chests, 'at 27 to*4s taels for good to finest. Oolong — 3,500 half-chests, at 20 to 30 taels for good cargo to finest. Flowery pekoe — A small lot of Hue at 40 tael\ Scented teas — 4,000 to 5,000 boxes, a : t 29 to -10 taels for middling to finest. The stock on the market consists of 18,000 chests of congou, 7.300 do souchong, 18,000 half-chests oolong, 100 chests flowery pekoe, and 3,500 boxes scented. The supply oi" congou this season to date amounts to 1 17,000 chests, against 110,000 chests same period last season. The supply of souchong has been 15,000 chests against 20,000 do.
