HOUSE A>M> CATXLE STEALING-. James Murdoch is charged on warrant, issued by the Invercargill Bench, with stealing from Thomas Watson Wilson, at Dacre, on the 10th of last June, seven head of cattle, all marked W (milim circle) on near shoulder and other brands, 'which he subsequently sold to a butcher near Invercargill, by whom they were slaughtered. He is a Scotchman, aged 33, about 6 feet high, stout build, fair complexion, light hair, sandy whiskers, shaves on chin and upper lip, long hooked nose, and small grey eyes, often dressed in bedford cord pants, and knee boots. Previous tfi' coming to New Zealand, was employed as farm servant, by Mr. Everingham, near Ballaarat, and by Mr. Stratum, near Kyneton. Was at one time employed on iM r. M'Nab's run, Mataura Plains, and about 8 months since, was working for Mr. Wilson, the complainant. Left Invercargill for Dunedin, by steamer on the 28th of last June, accompanied by his wife and four children. Has a brother in-law named Purdy, who keeps a farm near Ballaarat, Victoria. David Johnstoneis charged on warrant, issued by the Biverton Bench, with stealing from Charles Whybrow Ligar, at Blackmount Station, Southland, on or about the 20th of last June, a strawberry bullock, branded J. (within circle) on off thigh and off shoulder, which he subsequently sold to a butcher at Eiverton, by whom it was slaughtered. He is believed to be a Tasmanian, aged 34, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, and hair very thin, no moustache, pug nose, and very effeminate voice. Was formerly station manager for Mr. Ligar. Is supposed to have gone to Dunedin. Is known to Dalgety. Rattray and Co., agents there for Mr Ligar. Stolen some time in November, 1863, while running on Jacob's River Plains, a bay mare, with white face, and black A. points, branded DM near shoulder, the property of Donald Cameron, Bonny Farm, near Eiverton. — Ist Sep., 1864.
