On Eriday, amongst the persons summoned for permitting their dogs tojbe. at large, was Mr John Davey, 102 WhitechapeLThe defendant sent a. letter in extenuation of the offence, and setting forth the harmlessness^of the animal in question and the important services which it had performed. Tlie following extract from the letter showed that the dog. had been a.- valuable, one : — -" It is a bitch, quite twelve years old, with scarcely a tooth in her head ; and as a proof of her harmless disposition, she has, at one and the same time, suckled a pup, a kitten, a rabbit, and a pigeon. " After this proof of the Mndly nature ofthe slut, the magistrates could not do other ■wise thanacquit her of being dangerous, accordingly dismissed the summons— Liverpool Mercury. A Remarkably Intebesting Experiment. — It has been stated that Dr. Grusselback, of the University of TJpsale, lately restored to activity a snake which had been frozen to ' torpidity for ten years. It is also reported that he proposed to tho Swedish Government to texperimenfc on criminal*. He proposes to reduce the individual to compla torpor, by the gradualapplication of cold, and to resuscitate him after a year or two. Many Aliases. — A patriotic lady of Kentucky, by the name of Adams, has sacrificed to her patriotism the comfort of her infant child, by naming him Geo. D. Prentice James P. Grant Orlando H. Bosencrans Stanley Berryman Burnside Adams. The little fellow, remarks an exchange, is only fir* weeks old and cannot remonstrate.
