Sydney, August 13. The Hunter is still rising slowly. The embankments alone keep the water out of Maitland. The river Singletown i s forty feet over its oi'dinary level. Commodore Wiseman, His Excellency the G-overnor, and the Cabinet Ministers, examined the harbor yesterday, with the view of fixing upon the best position to place the batteries for the defence of the harbor. The prisoners on Cockatoo Island are in a state of mutiny. liis Excellency the G-overnor presented •the gold, medal sent by the Shipwrecked Fisherman's Society, to Mrs. Dick to-day. The gift was presented for Mrs. Dick's courageous conduct, in having saved two men from drowning on laat Boxing-day. The "naval brigade was paraded in the (Domain, where the presentation was made.
